HGTV - The Property Brothers
This home and family will always hold a special place in our hearts. When HGTV offered us the opportunity to be the design lead for the Property Brothers, we were thrilled to collaborate on two episodes. This particular project truly resonated with us, as we cherished the family and found immense joy in bringing their vision to life. The blend of creativity and connection made this experience exceptionally memorable for our design team.
The family desired a modern-day farmhouse that truly reflected their lifestyle and love for horses. Every element was thoughtfully curated to enable a full family life of entertaining, family nights, game playing, and cozying up by the wood-burning fireplace, complete with the occasional marshmallow roasting. The original home had great bones but required a complete overhaul. During our initial site visit with the Property Brothers and the client, it was evident that the space needed to be reimagined for better functionality and flow. This transformation was beyond what the clients had envisioned for their home, demonstrating the power of thoughtful design in creating spaces that exceed expectations.
Our goal was to incorporate farmhouse features without making the design overly rustic. The transition to the dining room, which had a narrow layout, was enhanced by a custom banquet, creating an inviting space for family and friends to gather. The highlight was a beautiful hutch discovered at an antique farm. Purchased in its original condition, the client’s father lovingly restored it, sanding and painting it to give it new life. This piece became the perfect showcase for her grandmother's dishes and tea sets.
We had an incredible time working together, especially with Jonathan and Drew. What made this project even more special was being invited back by the homeowners to furnish their primary bedroom and basement, further enhancing the beauty and functionality of their cherished family home.
We designed the kitchen island in the perfect shade of navy to complement the surrounding cabinetry. Adorned with a charming beadboard accent, the island became the kitchen's focal point. Introducing the stone apron sink and an exquisite faucet that added just the right touch of class, the kitchen achieved the perfect balance between modern aesthetics and farmhouse charm.
To maximise space and enhance the kitchen's functionality, we proposed closing off one of the windows to create a seamless wall-to-wall cabinet layout, allowing for the addition of a stove and range. Placing the sink at the window not only created a picturesque view of the backyard but also improved the kitchen's workflow. The kitchen, oddly positioned as the first room upon entry, was long and narrow, leading directly into a beautifully spacious dining area—which was an addition made by the original homeowners.
Designing the family room was an absolute delight. The family embraced colour, patterns, and textures, allowing us to create a beautiful, cosy, and family-friendly space. Custom millwork was crafted to store wood efficiently while serving as a striking design feature.
